Fishers Community Center at Johnson Farm

The City of Fishers has broken ground on the new Fishers Community Center at Johnson Farm on Hoosier Road near 121st Street.

The 105,000 square-foot recreation center will be a gathering space for residents, bringing the community together through health and wellness with amenities including a large indoor playground, indoor track, dog park, aquatics facility with a 2-story waterslide and a café operated by Sahm’s Hospitality Group. The center will also be the new home of the Fishers Health Department and Outside the Box’s adult day program to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The new community center was designed based on input from residents. In 2021, a steering committee chaired by Fishers City Councilor Todd Zimmerman was formed to identify and prioritize community needs and how they could be served by an indoor facility. Nearly 3,500 residents completed a survey to share the amenities they most desired in this facility. Top items like a dog park, indoor playground, track, and aquatics facility were included in the design.

Project Details

The center will offer both memberships and day passes, with discounts for Fishers residents. It will also feature free amenities accessible to both residents and non-residents, including a large indoor playground, indoor track for walking and running, and café.
The Center is estimated to cost $60 million and will be paid for through city-issued bonds following a build-operate-transfer agreement that is slated to end in 2026. City leadership does not anticipate the Fishers City Tax rate to increase as a result of financing this project.
The project resolution was presented to the Fishers Finance Committee on June 14 and the Fishers City Council on June 19 for approval.
The project broke ground this spring and will open in fall 2025.

Where will the center be located?

The facility will be centrally located in our community on Hoosier Road near 121st Street.

How big is the building?

The two-story center will be approximately 105,000-square-feet.

What amenities will be included in the center?

Highlights of the new center include:
-An outdoor, membership-based dog park with plenty of room to run and play
-A 5,300-square-foot indoor playground complete with a climbing wall, play structure, and more (no membership or day pass required)
-A 10,000-square-foot aquatics center with four 25-yard lap lanes in one pool, and a zero-entry warm water pool with play features and waterslide, climbing wall, and private, universal changing areas
-An 18,600-square-foot gymnasium featuring three basketball courts, which can also be converted into volleyball and pickleball courts
-A second-floor fitness center including a spin studio, exercise machines, and group exercise rooms
-An indoor track with separate lanes for walking and running (no membership or day pass required)
-A childcare facility with separate areas for infants, toddlers, school age and older children
-Fishers Health Department offices and clinical rooms offering healthcare services for residents

Will there be food onsite?

Yes, a café operated by Sahm’s Hospitality Group will be located on the first floor in a public gathering space.

Are there any outdoor amenities at the center?

The center will feature a large outdoor dog park, with a fitness center expansion to an outdoor rooftop terrace planned for Phase 2.

What type of accessibility features are included?

Through collaboration with community stakeholders like the Fishers Advisory Committee on Disability, accessibility features such as adult companion care rooms with adult changing tables, a zero-depth entry pool, water wheelchair, and accessible fitness equipment were added to the facility. The community center will also house Outside the Box’s adult day program to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Will the center be free to visit?

Portions of the center will be free and accessible to both residents and nonresidents, including the indoor track, indoor playground, and café. The majority of the center’s amenities will be available through paid memberships, available for both residents and nonresidents, and day passes. Prices are yet to be determined.

No, the center is available to both residents and non-residents with a membership or day pass.

When will the center open?

The center is planned to open in fall 2025. Once open, operating hours are anticipated to be Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Hours are subject to change as operational plans are finalized closer to the open date.

How much does this project cost?

Will there be road and trail improvements to 121st Street and Hoosier Road to accommodate increased traffic?

Yes, we plan to install a round about to improve the intersection of 121^st and Hoosier Road in Summer 2025. We also are evaluating trail improvements in this area to address missed connections with pedestrian trails. Our goal is to have a safe experience for families to walk, run, or bike to the Community Center.

What is the total acreage of the property?

The 25-acre property includes the 105,000-square-foot facility, along with an outdoor dog park, parking lot, and greenspace.

What will happen to the land south of the property next along the road on the north side ofto 116th Street?

The land will remain with the Johnson family and is not part of the Community Center project. Specifically, this is the area with several berms along the roadway.

Will the indoor athletic courts host travel sports tournaments, like basketball and volleyball?

No, these courts are intended for community use and will not host large, regional tournaments.

How much will a membership cost?

The City has not announced prices, but memberships are targeted to be in line with local market costs, with discounts available for Fishers residents.
