Project Overview

The City of Fishers is reconstructing the roundabout at Southeastern Parkway and Olio Road to improve safety and traffic flow at one of the region’s busiest intersections. The project will be completed in November 2026.

When completed this fall, the project will add more room for vehicles, reduce backups on nearby roads, make the roundabout easier to navigate, and help drivers move through the intersection more safely.

TRAFFIC PATTERN: PHASE 1 (BEGINNING ON/AFTER JUNE 15)

Timeframe: On/after June 15, 2026 – late July 2026
Traffic Impacts:
- The roundabout remains open with lane restrictions.
- Crews will improve nearby 136th Street and permanently make it a two-way road, providing a detour option during Phase 2. They will also build a new connection road between 136^th Street to the west for easier westbound traffic flow.
Detour: Alternate routes are encouraged but not required during Phase 1.
Drivers should expect delays and changing traffic patterns. Plan ahead, follow posted detours and alternate routes, and allow extra travel time, especially during commute hours and Ruoff events. All construction dates are weather-dependent and subject to change.

Phase Timeline

Phase 1: Mid-June – Late July 2026

The roundabout will remain open, but drivers should expect lane restrictions and changing traffic patterns.

Crews will improve 136th Street and permanently make it a two-way road. Once complete, 136th Street will provide another route around the construction area and help reduce delays. They will also build a new connection road between 136^th Street to the west for easier westbound traffic flow.

Phase 2: Late July – October 2026

Southbound on Olio Road from north of the roundabout
Drivers traveling south on Olio Road from north of the roundabout will not be able to continue south through the roundabout. There will not be a direct or convenient route to southbound Olio Road from this approach during this phase. Drivers should expect to be directed west onto Campus Parkway/146th Street and should seek an alternate route.

Northbound on Olio Road
Drivers traveling north on Olio Road should follow the posted detour using 136th Street. The detour will use the newly improved two-way road constructed during Phase 1.

Eastbound through the area
Drivers traveling east through the area should follow the posted detour using 136th Street.

Westbound through the area
Drivers traveling west through the area may continue to use one lane of the roundabout to go north on Olio Road or west on Campus Parkway/146th Street. Drivers who need to access southbound Olio Road can use the new road connection to reach 136th Street, travel west on 136th Street, and then turn south onto Olio Road.

Phase 3: October – November 2026

The roundabout will reopen to traffic in most directions, but northbound Olio Road will remain closed at the north side of the roundabout. Drivers should still expect periodic lane restrictions and delays.

Access to Olivia Way businesses will be available from the north side of the Olio Road roundabout only. To access Olivia Way, use Campus Parkway to Bergen Boulevard, then take Tegler Drive to Olio Road.

FAQ’s

When does construction begin and how long will it last?

Construction begins mid-June, although there will not be any road closures during Phase 1. The closures in Phase 2 are expected to go into effect in late July through October. Completion is expected in November 2026.

Will the intersection be completely closed?

No. While portions of the roundabout will be closed during construction, the full roundabout will not completely close.

Will businesses remain open?

Yes. Nearby businesses, hospitals, medical offices, neighborhoods, and community destinations will remain open and accessible during construction. Review the detour maps here to plan ahead.

How will this impact Ruoff Music Center traffic?

Drivers should expect heavier delays during Ruoff Music Center events, especially during Phase 2 and 3 when roundabout access is restricted. Event traffic should follow posted detours and allow extra travel time. More event traffic details will be shared before major traffic shifts.

How do I access Ascension St. Vincent Fishers and IU Health Fishers?

Emergency access will be maintained throughout all phases of construction.

Both Ascension entrances will remain accessible throughout construction, but routes to each entrance may change depending on the phase of work. Emergency access will be maintained at all times.

IU Health Fishers will remain accessible at all times from the south, east, west and I-69.

What improvements are being made?

The project will add more room for drivers traveling through the roundabout, improve traffic flow, and remove a confusing traffic pattern. When complete, the roundabout will help drivers choose the correct lane sooner and move through the intersection more safely.

This project will improve safety and traffic flow at one of the region’s busiest intersections. The reconstructed roundabout will help reduce congestion, make the intersection easier to navigate, and decrease rear-end and side-swipe crashes.

The project also supports growth in northeast Fishers and improves a key connection between Fishers, Noblesville, Hamilton County, and regional destinations

Will emergency access be maintained?

Yes. Emergency access will be maintained throughout all phases of construction.

How is this project funded?

The project is supported by grant funding through the Metropolitan Planning Organization Federal Funds Exchange, with an 80/20 federal/local split. The total project bid amount is $6,725,304.
