The City of Fishers honors our local veterans for their service and sacrifice with various events and initiatives throughout the year.

2025 Fishers Veterans Day Ceremony

The City of Fishers and Fishers Armed Services Commission invite residents to a Veterans Day Ceremony on Tuesday, November 11 at 11 a.m. honoring our local heroes and their families. This ceremony is free and will be held in the Theater at Fishers Municipal Center (1 Municipal Drive). A live stream will be provided on the City of Fishers’ YouTube Channel.

Guest Speaker: Colonel Aaron P. Gillison, Sr.
U.S. Army, Retired; SES, Defense and Financial Accounting Service, U.S. Dept. of Defense, Retired

Aaron P. Gillison, Sr. has more than 43 years of combined civilian and military service. Gillison completed his career with the U.S. Army as a Colonel, where he served in leadership and financial positions in the United States and overseas. Gillison recently retired as an SES civilian from DFAS Indianapolis.

Gillison became the DFAS Deputy Director for Operations in January 2021, after serving as the Deputy Director for Strategy and Support immediately prior. During his tenure at DFAS, he was responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of more than 3,000 federal employees providing a range of finance and accounting services to the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, and 26 Defense Agencies worldwide.

Prior to joining DFAS, Mr. Gillison completed a career with the U.S. Army as an officer, where he served in a multitude of assignments from the Airborne Infantry to Financial Management at HQDA and a joint unified command. He also served in leadership and financial management positions overseas in Egypt, Korea, and Bosnia.

Mr. Gillison earned the Airborne & Air Assault Badges, Expert Infantryman Badge, the Joint Specialty Officer designation, and the Army Staff Identification Badge. He has earned a number of civilian and military awards, including the Legion of Merit.

Mr. Gillison holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana; and a Masters of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. He is also a graduate of the Office of Personnel Management Federal Executive Institute Leadership for Democratic Society Program.

Gillison is a proud resident of Fishers, Indiana.

The City of Fishers and the Armed Services Commission hosted a public ceremony on Monday, May 26 at the Nickel Plate District AMP (6 Municipal Drive).

Request a Veteran Light Pole Banner

Join us in a visual tribute to our veterans in the heart of the Nickel Plate District! This special light pole banner program is dedicated to honoring those who have served in our armed forces.

These banners are not just decorations; they are symbols of gratitude and respect, enhancing the atmosphere of our community, especially during patriotic events throughout the year.

Banners are available for $50.

Photo Requirements:

  • Size: Minimum 4” x 6”
  • Resolution: 600dpi for clarity
  • Format: .PNG or .JPG file type
  • Close-up images of the veteran in uniform (current or while serving) and waist up and/or headshots with solid backgrounds are preferred. Military or public safety vehicles, flags, buildings, monuments, etc. are acceptable in the backdrop.

Engraved Brick Pavers

You, your family, and friends will have a permanent place to celebrate your Hero for years to come. Purchase an Engraved Brick Paver to be installed as a permanent addition to the Liberty Plaza walkway, located in the center of the Nickle Plate District Central Green. Take a walk around the Central Green and Nickel Plate District Amphitheater to see the light pole banners honoring local veterans and active duty service members in the Fishers community.

Hometown Help for Heroes

Fishers DPW provides the Hometown Help for Heroes initiative, which alleviates some of the practical burdens that families of a currently deployed head of household face, including driveway and sidewalk snow removal and lawn mowing and trimming services. This program is open to any family residing in Fishers with at least one head of household currently deployed in a branch of the armed forces.
