Local Business Spotlight: Arctic RX

ArcticRx is one of eight Fishers businesses nominated for the 2024 TechPoint Mira Awards. Founded by Shane Bivens, ArcticRx initially started as an effort to develop technology for a stable, long-term, ultra-low temperature pod to transport food. After the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Bivens decided it would be a better fit to store vaccines and deliver them to locations that otherwise wouldn’t be able to get access to them.

“The world needs a box that can stay at an ultra-low temperature for weeks at a time and also can fit through doors,” said Bivens. “We found a solution to that and built it with our team from all around Indiana.”

ArcticRx made its home at the Indiana IoT (Internet of Things) Lab in Fishers, which is an innovative coworking space for entrepreneurs who are working to grow the IoT sector. The Indiana IoT Lab hosts regular workshops, seminars and events to encourage collaboration and support networking opportunities.

“I’ve lived in a lot of places,” said Bivens. “Places like the IoT Lab don’t exist anywhere else. That’s why we knew we had to set up shop in Fishers.”

Despite being a small start-up business, ArcticRx will become a global organization when it starts selling its product. The company will start sending its pod overseas to its first customer this year, supporting global equitable access to vaccines in rural and remote areas.

The Mira Award winners will be announced during the Techpoint gala on April 26.
