About the Aging & Wellness Task Force

The City of Fishers has established an Aging & Wellness Task Force to evaluate current services for older adults and to identify opportunities for new programming, resources, and potential infrastructure—including the exploration of a dedicated senior services facility. The task force is charged with assessing existing offerings, determining service gaps, and providing strategic recommendations to enhance the quality of life for Fishers’ senior population.

Co-chaired by Fishers City Councilor Bill Stuart and Dr. Juanita Albright, a local physician and member of the Hamilton Southeastern Board of Trustees, the task force includes residents, caregivers, and service providers with direct insight into the needs of the community. As part of its assessment, the group has launched a community survey and will host a series of focus groups to gather feedback and perspectives from seniors and their families.

The Aging & Wellness Task Force is a key component of the City’s Culture of Health initiative, which aims to foster wellness, vitality, and healthy living for all residents.

The potential for a senior-focused facility was brought up during the planning phase for the new Fishers Community Center, set to open this fall.

The task force kicked off in March 2025 with the aim to have a plan for City staff by mid-summer.

Age-Friendly Action Plan

The City of Fishers has taken steps to create an age-friendly community through the adoption of the Fishers 2040 Comprehensive Plan which includes age-friendly practices and focuses on creating a smart, vibrant, and entrepreneurial city.

Through the work of the Age-Friendly Fishers Committee and the support of our community partners, Age-Friendly Fishers prioritizes strategies that expand upon Fishers 2040 goals and objectives and will continue to identify best practices, community needs, and opportunities that support this vision.

In 2018, the City of Fishers joined the network of AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities, an affiliate of the WHO Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities.

The designation emphasizes the City’s commitment to continued age-friendly efforts in four distinct categories: land use, housing, transportation, and parks.
