Disaster Preparedness

Be aware of the kinds of emergencies that could happen in your community and have a plan on how you can get up-to-date information during an emergency.

In central Indiana, extreme heat and cold, thunderstorms and tornadoes, floods, and winter storms top the list of likely natural disaster causes but don’t forget the potential for an earthquake. It’s also a good idea to be aware of your surroundings at work and at home, and any potential man-made problems that could arise.

Stay Alert: Choose Your Emergency Notification Sources

SAME Radios: For immediate alerts, equip yourself with a SAME (Specific Area Message Encoding) radio. It monitors National Weather Service broadcasts around the clock, alerting you to any emergencies in Fishers and surrounding areas.

Online Notifications: Prefer digital updates? Opt for internet-based alerts via email or text. Sign up for Fishers Emergency Notifications [link to new delivra list] and Hamilton County Emergency Management’s app.

Local Media: Tune into local radio and TV for up-to-the-minute updates, especially during unfolding events.

Outdoor Sirens: A crucial alert for those outdoors. Remember, these sirens are a supplement and should not be your sole source of warnings.
