The City of Fishers is launching a new grant program designed to help neighbors connect, move and build healthier communities together. The new Neighborhood Walking Grant offers $200 to homeowners associations and neighborhood groups looking to begin or expand walking groups within their communities. Ten grants are available, with a limit of one per neighborhood. Applications opened Oct. 1 and will be accepted through Oct. 30, 2026, with applicants notified no later than Nov. 13.
The grant encourages residents to build stronger connections with their neighbors while promoting healthy, active lifestyles as part of the City’s Culture of Health initiative. The citywide initiative is designed to encourage residents to get active, explore nature, and connect with one another, all while promoting wellness and healthy living as part of their everyday. Other Culture of Health programs include the Geist Race Series, Open Gym, and community bike rides.
“The simplest habits can make a meaningful difference in our health and well-being. A walk through the neighborhood is an opportunity to get moving, spend time outside and connect with the people who live around us,” said Jake Reardon McSoley, Director for Recreation and Wellness.
Grant funds may be used for items that support participation and the overall walking group experience, including apparel, water, healthy snacks, and other walking supplies. The new Neighborhood Walking Grants also support Mayor Scott Fadness’ commitment to neighborhood vibrancy and building connections among residents.
“We want to continue investing in the things that make Fishers’ residents strong, and that includes the connections between the people who live there. The Neighborhood Walking Grants are a simple way to support healthy habits while giving residents more opportunities to connect with their neighbors,” said Mayor Scott Fadness.
