What’s Included in Fishers’ Trash Services?

Weekly collection of solid waste and yard waste

Residents receive two 96-gallon (standard) containers for solid waste. Find your service day using this map.

Bi-Weekly Curbside Recycling

Residents can receive up to 3 total bins (combo of trash and recycling). Please contact Republic at 317-917-7300 to request additional recycling bins or for bin modification.
A 65-gallon option will be provided upon request

Acceptable items include cardboard, newspaper, any paper products, aluminum and metal cans, plastic bottles/containers/jugs, glass bottles. See list of acceptable items and recycling info from Republic.

Yard Waste Collection

In April and November, Republic will pick up an extra 20 bags of yard waste or leaves per pickup from each household.

Where do I put the extra bags? Please place bags next to your container for pickup.
What type of bags do I use? Please use compostable bags.

When will yard waste be collected? Yard waste will be collected on the same day as your trash service day.
Will branches be picked up? Yes, branches/twigs will be picked up if placed in 3 ‘ x 3’ bundles of branches/twigs. Please place bundles next to your trash bin for pickup.

Special Needs Service

For residents who are physically unable to walk their bins to the curb, contact Fishers Utilities at 317-595-3140 and request assistance for trash truck drivers to handle bins from the top of the driveway to the truck and return to the top of the driveway empty. This request will flag your account with Republic Services as requiring this assistance weekly.

Holiday Pickup

When a major holiday (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas) falls on a weekday, collection routes will be delayed for one day for the remainder of the week. Learn more about holiday, weather, or truck maintenance-related delays here.

Extra Trash Bags

Extra trash bag tags are available for purchase at the City Services Building (3 Municipal Drive) on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. for $2.50 each. Residents can pay with cash or opt to have the charge added to their next Fishers Utility invoice (if all Fishers Utility accounts are up to date and have a zero balance).

You may have an outstanding balance for trash service received before the start of the city contract on 1/13/25. Your previous provider will notify you of any past due balances still owed. If you overpaid your previous provider for service after 1/13/25, they will be issuing a refunds that take between 6-8 weeks.

FAQs

How do I modify my bin selections or request more bins?

Residents can call Republic at 317-917-7300 to request modifications to their household’s trash and recycling bins (i.e. adding/removing trash/recycling bin(s), change in bin size, etc.). Each household is allocated up to three bins as part of the monthly charge.

Residents may also modify bin selection, in terms of size and number of recycling bins (i.e. you may select a 65 gal. tote or 2 recycle & 1 waste bin). These customizations are allowed, as long as the total bin count is 3 or below.

How do I pause service if I will be gone from my residence for longer than 8 weeks?

If you are absent from your residence for a period longer than 8 weeks, you may pause trash service and billing at your household. You may request a service pause by completing the Trash Service Hold Form. Please read the form for details on pausing trash service.

How do I pay my bill?

How long is the citywide trash contract?

The Republic contract is for 10 years, beginning in 2025 and running through 2035.

Does trash service include unincorporated portions of Fishers?

No, this only includes incorporated portions of the city. Use Map Fishers to find out if your property is located within Fishers city limits. Properties shown in green are inside City limits (incorporated), those shown in gray are currently outside of city limits (unincorporated). All incorporated areas of Fishers are currently included in the contract.

Is there an administration fee included in my trash rate?

The City of Fishers manages and administers the billing of residential units as part of the citywide trash contract. To effectively provide billing services and related customer support, a $2 administration fee is included in monthly trash rates. The $2 administration fee is NOT an additional fee to the rates, but is already included in the rates listed above.

Are HOA clubhouses/ common buildings included in the citywide trash contract?

Yes. Republic includes HOA clubhouses and common buildings in the city-wide trash contract. If common buildings need more than the services included in the contract (2 trash bins +1 recycle bin), the HOA must purchase additional bins. Similarly, if the clubhouse or common building utilizes a dumpster, the HOA will need to work directly with Republic to coordinate services, separate from the city contract. The City will make a form available to HOAs to “opt in” to the citywide trash service for common buildings and clubhouses.

Republic will manage the billing for clubhouses & common buildings, but will still honor the city contract rates.

I previously paid for trash services through my HOA dues. How will my dues be impacted by this change?

Since each HOA operates independently, we recommend discussing any potential changes to your dues with your HOA board members. They will be able to address how dues may be adjusted to reflect the shift in how trash fees are paid.

Background

The City of Fishers implemented a citywide contract with Republic Services for residential trash services in January 2025, including trash, recycling, and leaf and landscaping collection for all residential units in Fishers. Benefits of a city-wide contract include: 

The ability for the City to assist residents with trash concerns and issues;

Reduced wear on neighborhood roadways;

A leveraged economies of scale to secure services not currently offered to the majority of residents, such as leaf and landscaping pickup;

And a locked-in rate for 10 years.

In March 2024, the City of Fishers released the RFP for city-wide waste collection. The City conducted a public survey for residents and HOAs to learn more about their current trash services and preferences. 2,532 residents and 120 HOAs completed the survey. Survey results can be found here.

At the Board of Public Works meeting on July 23, 2024, City staff presented their recommendation of support for a city-wide trash contract with Republic Services (see the presentation here).
